Better Tasting Water, Better Health

Doctors say you should drink 6-8, 8 ounce glasses of water a day. This can fluctuate depending on your body weight, however, as a general rule 8 glasses a day is a good minimum. Unfortunately, many people find it difficult to drink this much water. Our body is 60% water, making the amount of water we drink a day extremely important. According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, dehydration can affect your mood, energy levels, and also increase your risk for developing a headache. Drinking the proper amount of water can also boost your metabolism, and decrease fatigue. Proper water consumption also works to flush out toxins from your body through increased sweat and urination, which will reduce your risk for urinary tract infections, and kidney stones. Drinking water also helps your skin’s health! Water helps to properly moisturize your skin, leaving you with smooth and flawless skin. Plus, it works wonders as an anti-aging remedy. Water also helps your body’s immune system by helping you fight the flu, cancer, and by reducing your risk for a heart attack. Also, water will help you recuperate from a workout quicker, by speeding up your muscles recovery, and reducing muscle cramps.

Research shows that 4 out of 10 Americans aren’t drinking enough water, and half of American children are dehydrated. So, with all of these benefits, why aren’t more people meeting this 6-8 ounce glass suggestion? Many people prefer to drink other liquids, such as coffee, juice, tea, or soda throughout the day. However, this not only keeps your body from staying hydrated, but it also doesn’t contain any of the essential nutrients your body gets from drinking water. These sugary and caffeinated beverages actually work against your water intake, by further dehydrating your body.

A study in the Journal of Physiology and Behavior also found that dehydrated drivers made twice the amount of errors during a two hour drive than properly hydrated drivers, which is nearly as bad as drunk drivers. A lot of people also complain that they don’t like water because of how it tastes. But, while this is a common problem, it’s a very easy problem to fix. A lot of people choose to buy bottled water, instead of drinking their tap water. However, while this water might taste a bit better, it is not the best option for your health. Bottled water doesn’t have the same regulation guidelines as tap water has, and the plastic used can also seep into your water and leave harmful cancer-causing chemicals in the water. A water filtration system will remove toxins, bacteria, pesticides, chlorine, and harmful chemicals from your water, while also leaving the beneficial nutrients in the water. This will leave you with fantastic tasting water that is also great for your health! A water filter will reduce your risk for cancer, gastrointestinal illnesses, heart disease, and increase your body’s health, especially your brain and heart. So, be sure to drink those 8, 8-ounce cups of water, and be sure to drink filtered water so that you are providing your body with the best health possible.
